Lauren Betts was born on October 15, 2003, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, to college athletes Andrew Richard Betts and Michelle Betts. Betts, an American with mixed ancestry, will turn 20 in 2023. Her father Andrew, a former British basketball player, was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round of the 1998 NBA draft.

Instead of pursuing a career in the NBA, he played for basketball clubs around the world, including in Italy, Greece, and Spain. On the other hand, Michelle, a Brooklyn native who grew up as an Air Force child in Colorado, met Andrew while playing volleyball at Long Beach State University. She currently works as a real estate agent with West and Main Homes. The couple, who are now divorced, reside five minutes apart but work together to raise their four children.
